– a mark that may be used as a substitue for a signature in some cases. Someone who cannot write his or her name may indicate agreement by marking an x in the place of a signature.

X – the roman numeral. It may be substituted for the number 10.
X-bracing – any system of bracing (bracing here means used to add strength) in which pieces of the framework are set to cross diagonally. When they intersect this way they form an “x”. This system makes a very strong structure.
Xeriscape – landscaping that is designed specifically for areas that are susceptible to drought, or for areas where water conservation is practiced.
Xylotomous – a characteristic of termites indicating their ability to bore into wood. You may run across this term in a home inspection report.
